Who's who?
The Friends of Bolsover Parks is a group of volunteers who live in Bolsover. Our families and friends frequently help us, particularly with Bolsover Gala. Our sincere thanks to our spouses, children, family and friends. We couldn't have done it without your help. These awards are recognition for what we all achieve together.
October 2009, Jean, Michelle and Rita collect Excellence in the Community Award on behalf of Friends of Bolsover Parks. "Excellence in the Community Awards aims to recognise outstanding work and extraordinary achievement by individuals, groups and communities in Derbyshire." Derbyshire County Council

I'm a mum of three children, me and my husband Charlie belong to large extended families who have lived in the area for many years, I know a lot of people through my family connections, school and I'm also known in Bolsover as 'the Avon lady'. The reason I got involved with Friends in 2006 was through a complaint! Our son (who is now a man) was 18 months old at the time and whilst playing on Hornscroft Park he fell over and cut his leg on some broken glass, which was a constant problem on the run-down park. I rang the council to complain and the rest as they say is history! It made me mad, I could remember how lovely Hornscroft Park used to be. So I, alongside our brilliant group, strive to give Bolsover the parks we all deserve. Janet and I are the main organisers of Bolsover Gala helped by Sue, Pat and others. I'm also at the forefront of organising the Winter Festival.

Hello, I am very interested in the community I live and volunteer in. I am agovernor at The Bolsover School, and a volunteer with the Friends of Bolsover Parks Group and an active member of Bolsover Allotment Association, and Bolsover Gala. I am particularly interested in seeing the parks in our area develop into marvellous places for all ages, and we are well on the way to achieving this. I have six grand children who all enjoy visiting the Hornscroft Park. I believe if you live and enjoy being in a community, you should give something back. I have volunteered for many years and enjoy it. Try it!
